Why Worcester Needs a Birth Center
Here in Massachusetts, we have one birth center. 99% of births take place in hospitals. But birth isn’t a one-size-fits-all experience, and you deserve to have options.
Most births are considered low-risk and could safely happen in a birth center—but that choice barely exists. And the lack of options comes at a cost far greater than dollars.
Massachusetts ranks 45th in the nation for severe maternal morbidity. Black birthing people here are 1.9 times more likely to die during or after pregnancy than white non-Hispanic individuals and face a 70% greater risk of life-threatening complications.
We can do better. The need is real. The time is now. Let’s build Worcester’s first birth center.
